LI motorist, 30, killed in fiery smash-up with drunk driver: cops

A Long Island motorist died after his vehicle burst into flames after a crash with a drunk driver on Long Island over the weekend, police said.

According to Nassau County Police, a 30-year-old man was driving a 2015 Subaru eastbound on Prospect Avenue in Hicksville around 11:20 p.m. Saturday, when he made a left turn onto Cantiague Rock Road and struck a 2005 Honda driven by Miguel Nolasco, 42, who was heading west on Prospect Avenue.

The crash caused the Subaru to burst into flames and trapped the driver, whose name has not been released, inside the vehicle, authorities said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Nolasco, a Roosevelt resident, was hospitalized for his injuries and later arrested after investigators determined he had been drinking at the time of the crash, police said.

He was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated, police said.

Police said he will be arraigned when his medical condition permits.
