A Long Island woman and her companions carjacked and kidnapped a stranger, then shot him to death outside a church. It all started when a woman parked in front of her home, authorities said.
Kayla Alvarenga, now 22, and her gang, including the suspected triggerman, Christopher Perdomo, 27, and five teenagers, are responsible for a shocking murder in Bay Shore in 2022. Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney was charged with murder. stated in a statement this week.
“The alleged murder in this case occurred without any provocation or probable cause,” Tierney said. “No one deserves to die a violent death just for parking their car.”
Tierney said the Sept. 16, 2022, ordeal began with victim Limber Ortiz-Ponce, of Central Islip, when Alvarenga parked a red Chevrolet Camaro outside her home on Fifth Avenue just before midnight. The incident reportedly started when he got into an argument with Mr. (29 years old).
When Ortiz-Ponce refused to move, Alvarenga allegedly called Perdomo, two 16-year-olds and a group of friends, including a 17-year-old boy, for help.
Tierney said the four drove to Alvarenga's house in a stolen BMW that they had carjacked hours earlier, dragged Ortiz-Ponce from the car and beat him.
They then stole his car and fled, CCTV footage from a nearby gas station showed.
The victim who was struck also ran away and tried to hide between parked cars at a gas station on Fifth Avenue.
Alvarenga allegedly witnessed this and called Perdomo and his crew to find and kill Ortiz-Ponce.
The suspects allegedly took two additional minors, ages 16 and 17, and they all got into a stolen Camaro and a stolen BMW and cornered Ortiz-Ponce.
When they found him, they packed him into a BMW at gunpoint, drove him to the nearby House of Prayer of God (Mr. Alvarenga thought there were no cameras there), and took turns shooting him, according to the DA's office. She allegedly hit him again. News 12 coverage at the time.
But that was clearly not enough for the bloodthirsty mastermind. Prosecutors allege Alberenga ordered Perdomo to fire shots at Ortiz-Ponce.
Tierney said Perdomo shot the wounded man several times as he tried to crawl away.
They fled the scene, abandoned the Camaro and BMW, and took an Uber back to Alvarenga's home.
Tierney said authorities arrested Perdomo in May in his native Georgia and charged him last Wednesday with first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, kidnapping, robbery and conspiracy.
He faces a possible life sentence without parole if convicted, and has been remanded to await trial.
Tierney said Alvarenga is scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 30.
The juvenile offenders are also each in custody and charges are pending, he added.
