Liam Lawson’s Formula 1 Journey and Upcoming Monaco Grand Prix
Liam Lawson has participated in Formula 1 for the past three seasons. He debuted at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix and took over for Daniel Ricciardo when he injured his hand. Lawson stepped in again last season after the Visa Cash App RB F1 team decided to change drivers before the US Grand Prix. This season, he started alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull but has returned to the junior team, racing for the Visa Cash App Race Bulls after a change ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix.
This week, however, he’s set to experience something new in Formula 1.
It’s his first Monaco Grand Prix.
Lawson refers to it as a “challenge” he’s eagerly anticipating.
“This will be my first race here in Monaco in Formula One cars, and it’s a moment I’ve been looking forward to for a long time,” he shared during a media preview for VCarb. “I’ve raced in the junior category before and it always feels incredibly special, but doing it in Formula 1 takes it to another level. There’s so much history and fame around this track. The margin of error here is small and the challenge is very big, but that really makes Monaco special.”
While Lawson hasn’t scored points this season yet, his VCARB teammate Isack Hadjar has managed to finish in the points four times this year.
Like Lawson, Hadjar will also experience the Monaco Grand Prix in an F1 car for the first time this week.
“Monaco is almost a home race for me and I’m sure it’s going to be a really special weekend,” Hadjar remarked. “I think it’s the best qualifying session of the year because it’s really intense, so I look forward to it. After last week’s great results at Imola, I feel like the car is working really well.”
Hadjar had a standout moment during the 2024 F2 season in Monaco last year.
Hopefully, he won’t have to rely on those quick reflexes in similar situations this week, either.
