It’s been nearly a year since Kevin Spacey was acquitted of sexual misconduct charges, and stars are coming to his defense and demanding he return to his Hollywood career.
After a two-part documentary titled Spacey Unmasked aired in the UK last week, fellow actors including Sharon Stone and Liam Neeson faced allegations of sexual assault from various men that surfaced. He praised Spacey, who was blacklisted, and argued that the industry “needs what it needs.” I miss him very much. ”
“I can’t wait to see Kevin back to work,” Ms Stone told the Telegraph.
“He’s a genius. He’s very elegant, fun, generous to a fault, and knows more about our craft than most of us.”
“That’s terrible [aspiring actors] They are using him for failing to understand their secret agenda and blaming him for failing to accept what they negotiated with them,” she added.
Neeson shared the same sentiment, saying: Kevin is a good person and a person of character. He is sensitive, articulate, non-judgmental and has a great sense of humor. He is also one of the greatest artists working in the theater and on camera. On a personal note, our industry needs him and we will miss him terribly. ”
F. Murray Abraham, who won an Academy Award for his role as Salieri in Amadeus, said: Who is this vulture to attack a man who, unlike many others, has publicly accepted responsibility for certain actions? ”
“He is a good man. I support him. Let him who is innocent cast the first stone,” he added.
Ahead of its release, Spacey denounced the documentary as a “one-sided” version of events, saying the seven-day response given to him by Channel 4 (the first British broadcaster to broadcast the documentary) was “unbiased.” “It’s not a great opportunity,” he said.
“I’m not going to sit through a one-sided ‘documentary’ about me and be attacked by a dying network desperately trying to get ratings,” Spacey wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “There is a proper channel to deal with the allegations against me and it is not Channel 4.”
“Every time I have been given time and a proper forum to defend myself, the allegations have failed under scrutiny and I have been acquitted.”
He was acquitted of sexual misconduct charges in July 2023 after four weeks of testimony. Spacey had pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual assault, indecent assault and causing a person to engage in penetrative sex without their consent.
The jury found him not guilty.
“I think a lot of people understand that I have a lot to process after what happened today,” Spacey said after court.
“However, I would like to say that I am extremely grateful to the jury for taking the time to carefully consider all the evidence and all the facts before reaching a verdict.”
“I’m humbled by today’s results,” he added. “I would also like to thank the staff within this courthouse, security, Evan Loewenstein, and all the people who took care of us every day, my legal team… for being here every day. think.”
Spacey’s most recent acting credit is in the film “Peter Five-Eight,” which was released earlier this year.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film was shot in September 2021.
He is also currently producing a film called “The Contract.”
