Liam Payne's sister condemns Kate Cassidy for exploiting the singer's death for attention.

Ruth Payne Gibbons, Liam Payne’s sister, has voiced her disapproval of his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, for turning to social media to express grief over the late musician’s death. This comes just hours after Liam’s posts about his love life.

“Everyone seems mostly focused on the public aspect of this,” Ruth commented. On Friday, the former One Direction member recognized the one-year anniversary of his passing in October 2024.

“Sadly, some seem more interested in the fame associated with this than the real human experience. I’m lost without a son, a parent without a child, and a brother without a brother,” she added.

In a heartfelt note to her “little brother,” Ruth remarked, “I hope to remain your sister for the rest of my life.” She accompanied her message with a nostalgic photo of Liam dressed as a pirate and concluded with a group picture featuring the pop star.

Cassidy, aged 26, had earlier shared a video on TikTok where she and Liam were playfully dancing in a park. In her tribute, she described it as their last moments together, expressing gratitude for the wonderful memories they shared, stating that Liam would be deeply missed.

She also posted a thoughtful TikTok where she reflected on her grief, saying, “Grief reminds me how fortunate I am to have loved someone so much that I will carry their memory with me for the rest of my life.” In her Instagram post, she shared an affectionate selfie with Liam, mourning the one-year mark since his passing, expressing how much she missed him.

Liam tragically died on October 16, 2024, due to injuries sustained from a fall off a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was just 31 years old.

Prior to his death, Kate and Liam had shared several joyful moments from their holiday in Buenos Aires, where they were visiting for former bandmate Niall Horan’s concert on October 4. Cassidy returned to Argentina alone two days prior to Liam’s incident.

In an earlier discussion, Cassidy opened up about feeling depressed after Liam’s untimely passing, confessing that she struggled with living her life. She described her state as one of merely existing amidst sadness and pain. However, after a couple of months, she realized she needed to actively engage with life again.

With the anniversary of Liam’s death approaching, she mentioned staying busy to help manage her thoughts, believing it serves as a good distraction.
