Liberal Host of The Daily Show Booed for Suggesting Trump Should Receive a Nobel Peace Prize

Comedian Josh Johnson, who is a part-time performer on Comedy Central’s daily show, faced boos from the audience on Thursday night. This happened after he suggested that President Donald Trump should be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize for facilitating a peace deal between Israel and Hamas, which potentially could end the war and enable the release of the remaining 48 hostages held by the group.

Johnson kicked off his monologue with the statement, “That’s right. There’s a peace deal between Israel and Hamas, and it’s based on a framework proposed by Donald Trump. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I have to give him some credit.” He reflected on how rare it is to say something positive about Trump, recalling other instances like the coronavirus vaccine and “Home Alone 2.”

He added a humorous take on the situation, suggesting that if this peace agreement holds, it would be surprising that Trump, who couldn’t mediate a dispute between Gary Busey and Meat Loaf, could somehow broker peace in the Middle East. However, in his remarks, Johnson also noted that Trump “made a huge contribution to the war effort” and wasn’t genuinely praising him for this political maneuver.

Regardless, he posed the question, “If this deal goes through, shouldn’t we award Trump the Nobel Peace Prize?” This statement elicited further boos from the audience. He joked about Trump having the ability to destroy the Epstein files, implying that he would only get a single nomination but could choose how to proceed.

In contrast, the Nobel Committee announced on Friday that this year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner is Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Colina Machado.

This development follows statements from world leaders, members of Congress, and celebrities who have advocated for Trump to receive the award, claiming that “no leader has done more for peace.”

Joel Pollack laid out Trump’s achievements, citing that under his direction, a ceasefire was reached between Israel and Hamas just as the Nobel Peace Prize was being awarded. Pollack also mentioned other peace agreements brokered by Trump, including between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, and Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as efforts to halt conflicts involving nuclear-armed nations like India and Pakistan.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that the ceasefire in Gaza, facilitated by Trump, officially began on Friday.
