Welch took issue with an interview Erica gave at the Dealbook Summit in Manhattan, where she discussed the rise of mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani. Erica expressed concern that young women might see government support as an excuse to delay starting families.

In what she termed a ‘deliberate weaponization’ of faith and gender, Welch called Erica a fraud, criticizing her past comments and suggesting they detracted from women’s safety. “Your late husband had views that were deeply problematic,” she stated, lamenting what she sees as Erica’s lack of genuine empathy.
