Jeff Bezos made major changes with the Washington Post.
Bezos said, “I will write daily to support and defend two pillars: personal freedom and the free market. I will cover other topics, of course, but the perspectives against those pillars will be made public by others.”
Jeff Bezos has released new guidelines for the opinion page that was featured in The Washington Post.
“We write every day to support and defend two pillars of individual freedom and the free market,” Bezos writes on social media platform X.
Bezos revealed the changes Wednesday by sharing a note he sent to his team.
Bezos added that he believes the topic is inadequately serviced in today's media landscape and is excited to “fill that void.”
Liberal critics blended into this.
New Yorker David Remnick joined MSNBC's “Morning Joe” on Thursday to discuss the post, saying, “This is a terrible tragedy. This is a Pentagon paper and papers like Watergate.”
“And Jeff Bezos bought the Washington Post for half the price of his boat, and he treated it like a rubber dinghi, and it's a horrifying tragedy,” continued Remnick. He claimed that Bezos was “threw his hand and kissing the circle of US presidents.”
…
Former Washington Post editor Marty Baron also denounced the Post in a conversation with “Morning Joe” when host Joe Scarborough asked him to talk about the shake-up.
“I'm in favor of free expression. You know, it's immediately on the first revision. And news organizations have always praised free expression by having different perspectives on their opinions pages,” the Baron said.
“But Bezos is just closing it now. And he says that only his perspective is represented on those pages. And it's really a betrayal of the legacy of the Washington Post. And I think it's a betrayal of the idea of free expression,” he added.
