Kimmel’s Show Faces Backlash Over Comments
Jimmy Kimmel’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” has suspended certain content, stirring outrage among conservatives who decry what they see as hypocrisy.
Kimmel recently found himself in controversy after he jokingly referred to being suspected as an “assassin” for Charlie Kirk. He claimed that there are efforts to mislabel a child’s actions related to Kirk’s incident in order to gain political traction.
There was even a response from former President Barack Obama, who criticized the current state of media relations under Trump’s administration, highlighting the ongoing threats against media outlets unless they conform to certain narratives.
However, it seems the liberal side, particularly late-night hosts, has forgotten about significant cancellations that have occurred, particularly impacting those on the opposite political side.
Take the case of Roseanne Barr; her much-discussed comeback in 2018 was abruptly halted after a controversial tweet. Despite being part of a highly-rated show that aired on the same network as Kimmel’s, her career took a downward turn due to backlash.
Barr even commented on Obama’s remarks, asking, “Do you remember when you and your wife called Bob Iger to get me fired?” referring to the CEO of Disney, which owns ABC.
Comedians and other public figures have also faced job losses stemming from their remarks. For example, Gina Carano was dismissed from “The Mandalorian” after sharing controversial posts regarding Covid-19 policies and gender identity.
Similarly, Tucker Carlson was ousted from Fox News, a move that many speculate was pushed by the network’s dire need for a settlement over legal issues.
Alex Jones faced bans from multiple mainstream platforms after promoting harmful conspiracy theories, demonstrating how censorship can vary widely based on political alignment.
Even notable figures in the entertainment industry, like JK Rowling, have faced ostracism for their views, particularly regarding gender identity, which has led to her being excluded from projects she was once involved with.
As for the liberal sphere, there’s little sympathy for figures like Megyn Kelly, who lost her NBC gig after making controversial comments about race. The left largely ignored the situation, approaching it as if she had advocated for something far more egregious.
This ongoing trend of selective outrage illustrates the complexities of what’s deemed acceptable in today’s media landscape, raising questions about who truly stands to be canceled.
