Libertarian Convention Thrown into Chaos Ahead over Trump’s Visit

The Libertarian Party’s national convention was thrown into chaos on Saturday as delegates disagreed over a visit by former President Donald Trump.

Trump was invited to speak at the party’s national convention on May 25, but a “vast majority” of Libertarian Party members were not happy with the decision made by former national party chairman Bill Redpath. Said POLITICO.

“The vast majority of Libertarians are not happy about this invitation,” Redpath told the outlet. “Some are calling Trump the most libertarian president in history. That’s just ridiculous.”

Jeff Yass, a billionaire financier and Republican donor, said Trump has “certain libertarian instincts.”

Yasu Donated He has worked on the campaigns of former Republican presidential candidates such as Vivek Ramaswamy and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC). He stated. He won’t donate to Trump’s campaign, but he plans to vote for him.

“He certainly has liberal instincts. Being anti-war is important,” Yass said. “But being anti-immigration and anti-free trade is not good.”

other speaker Among those attending the conference were Gabriel Shipton, film producer and brother of jailed WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange, historian and freedom advocate Dave Smith and cardiologist and epidemiologist Dr Peter McCullough.

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Ramaswamy Also talked At the tournament.

In his speech, Kennedy criticized President Trump and President Joe Biden for curtailing American freedoms and rights during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The outlet reported that Keiran Dreier, a Libertarian from New Mexico, suggested telling Trump to “fuck you” after which he was escorted out of the convention.

POLITICO report:

Trump’s advisers have said they plan to use Saturday’s speech to highlight the overlap between Trump’s policies and those supported by right-wing libertarians. Richard Grenell, a former Trump cabinet member widely expected to play a key role in a second Trump administration, has been in contact with Libertarian Party leaders and activists, as has Utah Sen. Mike Lee, a Libertarian Republican. Trump’s allies say the goal is not necessarily to gain an advantage among libertarian voters, but rather to minimize defections to third-party candidates. During the 2020 campaign, Libertarian Party candidate Jo Jorgensen garnered more votes in several key states than Trump and current President Joe Biden won.

Some Libertarian delegates, including Arizona’s Nathan Madden, suggested Trump “might get booed off the stage.” Libertarian Party Chair Angela McArdle noted that Trump and his campaign “would be happy to come speak.”

“President Trump, or at least his team, knows they need our votes,” McArdle said. “They’re willing to come and talk to us and listen to us. This is really unprecedented. Why would we miss this opportunity?”

McArdle previously stated The party has tried for “50 years” to put its candidates “on the main stage alongside the major party presidential candidates” but had no success until Trump agreed to speak.
