Libertarians Hand out Kazoos to Convention Attendees to Protest Trump

Supporters of Donald Trump overwhelmed the Washington Hilton on Saturday for the Libertarian National Convention in Washington, DC.

Not all party members in attendance were thrilled that the convention gave Trump a speaking opportunity — a move that energized a normally relatively quiet convention for a smaller party, but whose membership numbers far dwarf those of the president’s supporters.

Some attendees handed out pink kazoos to party members and instructed aspiring musicians to interrupt Trump’s speech when they were making objections.

The convention, which blared 1970s hits by Elvis Presley between speeches, lacked the orchestrated finery of the Republican and Democratic National Conventions, but the venue was full by the time the first speaker greeted guests, and organizers claimed the sold-out event was at capacity.

Members of the crowd periodically chanted “End the Union” and waved signs that read “Free Ross,” a reference to Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the Silk Road website who has been in federal prison since 2013.

Trump is buoyed by a well-received Bronx rally a few days ago that drew 25,000 people, but his expected speech on Saturday before an enthusiastic crowd that includes many members of other parties is likely to be one of his most memorable.

But with so many enthusiastic Trump supporters in attendance, he’s likely to have plenty of backing.
