Las Vegas – A Tough Loss for Liberty Against Aces

During a tense moment on Wednesday night, Johnkel Jones expressed his frustration after a foul was called on Narissa Smith with just over four minutes remaining in a tie game at 72.

This situation was particularly aggravating for Jones, especially since Sandy Brondello had already used her challenge on an earlier call, leaving no room for reconsideration.

These high-pressure moments often reveal a team’s true character and grit. This season, doubts about the team’s effort and resilience have surfaced, notably after their loss to the Lynx just days prior.

Despite their determination, the team faltered under pressure on the second night of back-to-back games, ultimately falling to the Aces with a score of 83-77.

For most of the game, both teams stayed closely matched, with neither able to pull away by more than seven points. Liberty held a slight two-point lead as they entered the fourth quarter.

Guided by A’ja Wilson, the Aces showcased their superiority, maintaining their intensity and overcoming Liberty’s challenges.

New York also struggled with four turnovers in the final quarter, which didn’t help their cause.

Since the recent defeat, Emma Meesman has criticized her new teammates for a lack of focus on execution, while Cloud noted that the opposition was testing New York’s toughness consistently.

Following the disappointing loss to the Lynx, Cloud expressed curiosity about how his team would respond under pressure.

However, less than a day after a tough match in Los Angeles, Liberty faced another defeat. Wilson, who had recently made headlines with a strong performance against the Sun, managed 17 points and 16 rebounds against Liberty.

Emma Meesman was the standout for Liberty with 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Jones, who competed fiercely against Wilson, finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
