Lila Rose Wins Abortion Debate at Yale

Lila Rose, founder and president of the pro-life organization Live Action, emerged victorious in a debate over abortion, which took place at Yale University on Tuesday. The discussion featured a former Catholic president, and the verdict from the audience was clear: Rose’s position on life support won decisively, with a 60-31 vote in her favor.

Following the event, Rose expressed her satisfaction on social media, stating, “The debate is over. We won. The room voted for life support. Yale organizers were shocked. The change is here. Thank you for praying.”

Interestingly, Rose had initially declined to participate in the debate, searching for another opportunity before ultimately deciding to go after learning about the tragic death of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk on September 10th. “After receiving the courageous news that Charlie had been killed, I felt a strong sense of calling to do it and go to Yale,” she explained.

She emphasized the necessity for people of faith and conscience to stand firm, stating, “It’s more important than ever that people of faith and conscience are not [silent] right now. Tell the truth with love. To speak on behalf of vulnerable people.”

The timing of the debate was notable, as it occurred just after another YPU vote that condemned violence. This backdrop of heightened security followed Kirk’s assassination, further intensifying the discussions around abortion.

Rose, who gained attention for a 2011 undercover video about Planned Parenthood, argued that abortion equates to the deliberate killing of humans, citing the undeniable science of conception. She referenced historical atrocities, such as the Holocaust and slavery, to illustrate the dangers of dehumanization. “When you dehumanize them, you open the door to all sorts of violence,” she remarked.

Additionally, Rose contended that men should share responsibility during pregnancy, advocating for financial support during this time. She promoted policies such as tax credits and resources for families and pregnant women as a means of empowerment.

In contrast, her opponent, Kisling, leaned on personal anecdotes, arguing that women’s interests should trump those of the fetus. “I tend to prefer more of a woman’s life, health, [and] partners’ values, especially when pregnant,” Kisling stated, contemplating hypothetical scenarios related to saving lives.
