A-10 Warthog Crashes Near Strait of Hormuz; Pilot Rescued

Reports have emerged that an A-10 Warthog pilot crashed near the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, but details about the mission during the incident remain unclear. Fortunately, the pilot was safely recovered.

As for the broader context of the conflict involving Iran, it’s been noted that the situation tends to be murky, often relying on unnamed sources. A recent report suggested that the specifics of the crash are still not entirely known.

According to information from a US official, the cause of the Warthog’s crash has yet to be identified. However, CBS News highlighted that the A-10 came under fire while participating in a search and rescue mission for a crew member from an F-15E fighter jet, which was downed over Iran early on Friday.

It’s been widely reported that the F-15 pilot managed to eject and was rescued by US forces, but a second crew member, identified as a weapons systems officer, remains missing, prompting extensive search efforts by the Pentagon.

CBS also noted that the A-10 was involved in this search-and-rescue operation when it was damaged. The pilot ejected over the Persian Gulf and was, thankfully, recovered.

In contrast, FOX News mentioned that the aircraft simply “crashed,” with the exact location still uncertain. Their report didn’t mention any connection to a rescue mission or that it had encountered enemy fire.

Meanwhile, NBC corroborated that the A-10 was indeed on a search-and-rescue mission for the missing crew member and that it reached Kuwaiti airspace after being fired upon. The pilot managed to eject before the jet crashed.

During these operations, it was reported that two Black Hawk helicopters were also struck by Iranian artillery. Fortunately, their crews were unharmed.

However, a Fox News report added that there were injuries among some crew members of the helicopter involved in the search, stating they faced enemy fire and sustained damage but were able to land safely.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for downing the F-15, sharing images and videos on social media and Iranian state news showing the wreckage and part of the ejection seat.

In an earlier operation known as Epic Fury, three U.S. F-15s were shot down in Kuwait without causing casualties, illustrating the volatility of the situation.

According to *Air Space Force Magazine*, the current losses of U.S. aircraft in the conflict should be viewed in context, given the thousands of combat sorties flown so far. The publication highlighted that current losses are minimal compared to the significant number of aircraft lost in previous conflicts, such as the 1,700 losses during the Vietnam War.
