Linda Ronstadt has slammed former President Trump for staging a “hate show” at the venue named after her in Arizona.
“Donald Trump is holding a rally on Thursday in a rented hall in my hometown of Tucson. I would love to ignore this sad fact. But since the building has my name on it I have to say something,” the “You No Good” singer wrote in a post on Wednesday.Social Media Posts.
President Trump is scheduled to deliver a campaign speech at Linda Ronstadt Music Hall in Tucson on Thursday.
“I don't just condemn his toxic politics, his hatred towards women, immigrants and people of color, his criminal behavior, his dishonesty and his ignorance — although there is some of that as well,” said the 78-year-old performer, who grew up in the Grand Canyon State.
“What it boils down to for me is that in Nogales and across the southern border, the Trump administration has systematically ripped apart migrant families seeking asylum,” Ronstadt said.
“Family separations have left thousands of infants and babies orphaned, subjecting desperate mothers and fathers to brutal treatment,” Ronstadt said, calling it a “humanitarian catastrophe.”
Trump last year defended his administration's decision to separate thousands of migrant families at the southern border while in office, saying it “could have prevented hundreds of thousands of people from coming in.”
In a message about Trump's visit to Arizona, Ronstadt said the 45th president “can never forgive or forget the grief he has caused.”
The Grammy Award-winning songwriter also criticized controversial comments made by Trump's running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), in which he said the country is run by “childless cat ladies.”
In a postscript to Vance, Ronstadt wrote, “I am a single mother raising two adopted children in Tucson. They are now adults and live in their own homes. I live with my cat.”
“I'm unmarried and have no children, so maybe I'm half a childless cat-loving woman?” she said.
Vance later called the remarks a “sarcastic comment.”
“I don't care what you call me,” Ronstadt added, “but this cat-loving woman will be proudly voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in November.”
