Lindsay Lohan Reflects on Fame and Family Life in Dubai

Lindsay Lohan knew she wanted to be an actress since her days in “The Parent Trap,” but she wasn’t quite ready for the fame that followed. During her teenage years and early twenties, the paparazzi were relentlessly after her, similar to her contemporaries like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, who all faced intense media scrutiny in the early 2000s.

To shield his son, Luai, from a similar upbringing, Lohan and her husband, Badar Shammas, chose to raise him in Dubai, away from the relentless spotlight of Hollywood.

Reflecting on her past, Lohan expressed, “I don’t want my family to experience the sort of chase I had to endure. Those were truly horrific moments. I still struggle with PTSD from those experiences.” She vividly recalls those times as extremely invasive and hopes they never return. “It’s not safe, and it’s simply unfair,” she added.

Years later, upon looking back, she has noticed the intensity of media attention has lessened. “When I was younger, it felt worse, but with social media, people can now share their stories on their own terms. It’s a real reclaiming of our lives,” she noted.

Despite missing aspects of her old life, she recognized that moving to Dubai has granted her the ability to separate her personal life from her public persona, which had been quite challenging before. “Dubai is a safe haven for us to lead a normal life, away from all the noise,” she said. “I see things more clearly for my children. It’s less about me now.”

She shared that going out in Los Angeles can be stressful, especially with younger kids. “Taking my son to the park is a challenge. I constantly worry about someone with a camera,” she explained, noting that in places like New York, those concerns don’t loom as large for her.

In contrast, she appreciates the different energy that New York offers. “In New York, we get more downtime than we do in LA.” Yet, the balance of space in LA is something she values. “But honestly, in Dubai, I have everything I need: privacy, peace, and safety,” she reflected.

Lohan admitted that growing up in the spotlight had its challenges. “Some aspects of my past work felt overshadowed by the paparazzi, which I find quite annoying. I wish that part didn’t exist.”

Recently, she shared on a talk show that her life in Dubai is quite ordinary. “I can finally live peacefully, without the constant fear of someone taking photos of my son. It just feels safe here,” she remarked.

The rules surrounding privacy in Dubai are notably different. “In restaurants, for instance, you can’t just snap pictures of people. You have to ask,” she explained. “This makes a significant difference. Privacy here is a rare luxury.”

Now, Lohan is focusing on her role in the upcoming film, “Freaky Friday,” with Jamie Lee Curtis and Chad Michael Murray. She realizes prioritizing herself has brought a noticeable improvement in her happiness levels.

Ultimately, Lohan emphasizes that family is what truly matters to her now. “My husband, my son, and I are what’s most important. It’s all about balance—daily life is paramount, especially with kids. Whatever their needs are, I have to adjust for them,” she stated.
