Famous Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham has a troubling history with stalking, as recent events in Santa Monica have brought it back into the spotlight.
A woman referred to as “Michelle” has been threatening him for several years now. In fact, she was once handcuffed and removed from his home after a strange swatting incident.
Though she hasn’t been linked to the latest attack, she has made multiple appearances at his home, harassing his family in attempts to get his attention.
This past Wednesday, it came to light that Buckingham was ambushed by a suspected stalker during a visit for an appointment in Santa Monica.
After throwing an unknown substance at him, the assailant fled. Police are on the case and believe they know who it is, but haven’t publicly identified them.
Buckingham’s ongoing issues with stalking can be traced back to Michelle, with whom he sought a temporary restraining order in 2024.
Michelle claimed she has been harassing Buckingham and his family since 2021, calling them numerous times and leaving lengthy messages claiming to be a relative.
She even threatened their lives, attributing a facial deformity she sustained in childhood to Buckingham, oddly demanding money from him.
According to him, “I don’t get her, and I’m definitely not her father.” Police advised her not to contact Buckingham or his family in 2022. While her messages to him stopped, she continued reaching out to his son William without Buckingham knowing.
In 2024, her stalking escalated once more when she sent Buckingham a collage of their photos. In September of that year, she showed up at one of his Los Angeles residences, but police intervened and warned her not to return.
Things took a more disturbing turn in November when Michelle reportedly called the police claiming William was trying to harm her and that she had heard gunshots.
Buckingham was awakened by “more than a dozen” officers, who handcuffed him under the mistaken belief that he was a threat. It turned out to be a false alarm triggered by Michelle’s call.
Eventually, Buckingham was freed and described the situation as part of a long pattern of harassment he and his family have experienced.
By December 2024, he successfully obtained a permanent restraining order against Michelle.
The attacker in Santa Monica has yet to be arrested. Both the Santa Monica and Los Angeles police are looking into the incident, but thankfully, Buckingham does not appear to have been injured in this most recent encounter.
