Trump’s Ceasefire Agreement with Iran: A Perspective

South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham commented on Fox News on Monday that President Donald Trump swiftly reversed the consequences of former President Joe Biden’s exit from Afghanistan, especially after announcing a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

“We’ve dealt a significant and strategic blow to Iran’s nuclear capabilities,” Graham said, crediting the use of B-2 bombers in support of Israel. He emphasized that this move sends a clear message to adversaries: Biden is not in charge anymore.

He described Trump as “strong” and “measured,” someone who strives for peace but recognizes that sometimes it requires strength to achieve it.

Palmetto Republicans posited that the ceasefire could lead to two potential outcomes: a substantial achievement that fosters peace, or a scenario where Iran might just use the time to regroup, risking a return to chaos. Graham urged the Iranian foreign minister to publicly renounce their goal of destroying Israel, which could signal a genuine commitment to peace.

“If they make that declaration, it’s a significant advancement,” he suggested, noting that if they fail to do so, it might indicate the opposite of peace.

Trump claimed the ceasefire would conclude a “12-day war” with a gradual implementation plan over 24 hours.

Officials from Iran have also acknowledged the ceasefire agreement. A diplomat revealed to Fox News that Trump had communicated with Qatar’s leadership, urging them to facilitate Iran’s agreement to the ceasefire. This effort was reportedly successful, as Iran agreed to the terms after discussions with Qatar’s prime minister.

Yet, Israel has raised concerns of a violation shortly after the ceasefire started, reporting that at least one Iranian missile was intercepted. Iran has denied these allegations, insisting they are adhering to the agreement.

In response to the alleged violations, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered a strong response against Iranian targets in Tehran. Meanwhile, Victoria Coates, Trump’s previous deputy national security advisor, expressed optimism that the ceasefire could still be salvaged, despite the ongoing tensions.
