Carnegie Mellon University Takes Action Against Professor’s Controversial Posts
Carnegie Mellon University has decided to intervene following a series of inflammatory social media posts made by a professor originally from Nigeria. This comes after her anti-white remarks gained significant attention online.
Dr. Uju Anya, a linguistics professor, made a statement that some found offensive, suggesting she would celebrate the deaths of white men. The backlash intensified when internet users began sharing her previous posts that expressed similar sentiments. Anya not only dismissed critics threatening to report her, but also mocked them publicly.
In one particularly provocative tweet made on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, she allegedly stated, “Die first, white man, then ask yourself why I’m dancing,” which was in reaction to someone challenging her focus on white male deaths.
The post quickly spread across social media platforms, leading Anya to ridicule her adversaries, including discussions aimed at her from notable figures like Elon Musk.
In her statements, Anya asserted, “Carnegie Mellon University knows exactly who they have. They recruited me with an attractive salary and great benefits. So good luck with that; they won’t take your complaints seriously,” she reportedly said, adding that her department head communicated to her that the complaints were being disregarded.
Responding to the uproar, Carnegie Mellon University released a statement indicating that Dr. Anya is currently on voluntary professional leave and will not be teaching this academic year. The university expressed serious concern regarding her recent social media activity and emphasized that her posts do not reflect the school’s values.
“To be clear: These posts incorrectly imply our university’s endorsement and are contrary to our community standards and values as well as our commitment to fostering a safe, respectful, and welcoming campus community,” the school stated in a follow-up message.
Interestingly, Anya’s account on social media has since been deleted.
This isn’t the first time Anya has made headlines for stirring controversy. Back in 2022, her comments regarding the passing of Queen Elizabeth II elicited backlash as she wished for the monarch to suffer in her final moments.
Despite the incident with the queen, Anya previously claimed that the British government was responsible for severe injustices done to her family.
She also commented on other current events, expressing a disdainful sentiment about notable public figures, indicating a pattern of provocative online behavior.
In 2024, Anya accused certain individuals of using tactics to undermine her experiences by questioning allegations made by an activist; however, an investigation later contradicted those claims.
