Yassine Cheuko, the bodyguard for Lionel Messi, is in the spotlight again due to a controversial incident.
He has been banned from all technical roles for the rest of the League Cup following a situation during a match against Atlas on Wednesday night.
The League Cup Disciplinary Committee released a statement saying, “After the Inter Miami CF versus Club Atlas match on July 30, members of the Inter Miami delegation displayed inappropriate behavior by entering a restricted area without being part of an official event.”
According to the regulations for the League Cup 2025, the committee has prohibited those individuals from all technical fields throughout the remainder of the League Cups this year and issued a private fine to Inter Miami CF.
Reportedly, Cheuko was involved in the incident.
Cheuko, a former MMA fighter who has been providing security for Messi since his days at Paris Saint-Germain, stepped onto the field after the match to intervene in a discussion between players from both teams.
Matthews Doria, a player from Atlas, later suggested that Cheuko’s presence wasn’t necessary.
“Our board is handling things well, and we know we’ll address this,” Doria mentioned. “I get that Messi’s bodyguard is there to ensure his safety from fans, but really, among the players, he shouldn’t be in that position.”
Doria added, “We shouldn’t comment too much on it, but the board and League Cup officials are watching and are responsible for making sure all players are safe.”
Earlier this year, Cheuko had been barred by Inter Miami from being on the sidelines during MLS games, but he still remains with the club’s security team.
