Detroit Lions’ Morris Norris Injured During Preseason Game

During a preseason game on Friday against the Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions safety Morris Norris was seriously injured and had to leave the field in an ambulance. Following the incident, players from both teams gathered in the center of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, pausing the game to pray together.

Norris, who is 24 years old, sustained his injury early in the fourth quarter while attempting to tackle Falcons running back Nathan Carter. He remained on the field, motionless, after what appeared to be a collision between Carter’s foot and his head.

The game was delayed for about 20 minutes as medical staff attended to Norris before he was taken off the field. Shortly after, play resumed, but an emotional moment unfolded when both teams circled around, seemingly to pray. It’s a bit chaotic; the clock kept running, and there was obvious confusion among announcers and fans.

After the game, Lions head coach Dan Campbell reflected on the violent nature of football. “It brings a level of perspective, you know? It’s about the Brotherhood in times like these,” he noted, emphasizing how players from both teams supported each other during a tough moment.

In a late-night update, the Lions reported that Norris was in a “steady state” and exhibited movement and emotional responses in all his limbs. Campbell conveyed optimism, mentioning Norris was breathing and talking while more tests were ongoing.

Norris is set to remain overnight at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for observation.
