Lions clinch playoff spot with walk-off field goal in epic high-scoring affair against Packers

Dan Campbell certainly knows how to keep things interesting, and it worked on Thursday night.

Campbell's aggressive coaching led the Detroit Lions to a 34-31 walk-off victory over the Green Bay Packers.

The Lions led 17-7 at halftime, but the Packers closed the gap on their first drive coming out of the locker room after a score by Tucker Craft. On the ensuing drive, Jared Goff threw a rough interception in his own half, and the Packers took the advantage by finishing the next drive with Josh Jacobs' second touchdown of the night, quickly taking a 21-17 lead. I stole it. However, Goff continued down the field and found Tim Patrick in the paint area to restore the three-point lead.

Late in the third inning, the Lions went back to their usual offensive behavior. However, the Packers tried to get a point from the 4th and their own 31 points, but it didn't go well, and the Packers moved within 10 to start the fourth quarter. Jacobs quickly scored his third touchdown of the night, giving the Packers a 28-24 lead.

But the Lions were hard to quit, as Tim Patrick scored his second touchdown of the night, putting Detroit back up to three points.

The Packers tied the game with a field goal with just under four minutes remaining, but the Lions' offense performed as usual and got within 20 points. But Dan Campbell did Dan Campbell's job, went for the goal at No. 4 and was inches away from scoring. It was a big risk. This time it worked, as Green Bay missed a timeout, allowing Jake Bates to walk off from 35 yards remaining.

The Lions now have an 11-game winning streak, the longest in team history, and are back in the playoffs for the second straight year. This is the first time they have made it to the playoffs two years in a row since they appeared from 1993 to 1995.

Goff completed 32-of-41 for 283 yards and three touchdowns, and Jameson Williams led the way with 80 receiving yards. Montgomery and Jahmil Gibbs combined for 94 yards on the ground and each found the end zone once.
