Detroit Lions Open Strong Against Kansas City Chiefs
The Detroit Lions kicked off their game against the Kansas City Chiefs with a long drive, aiming for a touchdown. They reached the Chiefs’ 1-yard line after running back Jahmil Gibbs was held back on a third down. The Lions chose to go for it on fourth-and-goal.
Lions quarterback Jared Goff was in position with running back David Montgomery behind him. Montgomery received the snap and dashed to the left side before tossing the ball back to Goff. Goff bobbled it briefly but managed to regain control, powering into the end zone for what looked like a touchdown. It was almost a perfect moment—until officials decided it was an illegal motion against Goff.
According to rules analyst Terry McCauley, Goff had to pause momentarily before making his cut. The touchdown was subsequently taken off the board.
After the setback, the Lions opted for a field goal and managed to take an early lead at 3-0. This marked a 15-play, 61-yard opening drive.
Prior to this matchup, the Lions had a record of 4 wins and 1 loss and were the NFL’s top-scoring team this season. After scoring just 13 points against the Green Bay Packers in Week 1, they had ramped up their performance, putting up at least 34 points in their last four games.
It certainly felt like the Lions were not planning to ease up against the Chiefs, keeping the pressure on throughout the game.
