Trump Dances “YMCA” at FIFA World Cup Draw
During the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw in Washington, President Trump surprised the leaders of Canada and Mexico by performing the “YMCA” dance, reminiscent of the Village People.
Jeremy Freeman, a forensic lip-reading expert from the UK, shared that he observed Trump singing along to the famous disco track, even encouraging First Lady Melania Trump to join him in the dance.
Trump reportedly expressed his enjoyment to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney while sharing the moment with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Melania. “I love this,” he said, according to Freeman’s observations.
After his dance routine, Trump reflected on the Village People, mentioning their appearance at his inauguration. “Come on, they make me happy,” he remarked to the gathered leaders.
At another point, he playfully invited Melania to join the festivities. Victor Willis, the lead singer of the Village People, previously mentioned that Trump warmed up to playing “YMCA” during his rallies because he genuinely enjoys the song. “This use of ‘YMCA’ seems to bring great joy to the American people,” Willis noted.
The event came as the U.S., Canada, and Mexico prepare to co-host the 2026 World Cup. Despite the ongoing trade issues stemming from Trump’s tariffs—a hefty 35% on Canadian imports and 25% on Mexican products—Trump hinted at maintaining positive relations with both leaders. “We get along great,” he told reporters at the Kennedy Center prior to the event, indicating that further discussions were planned post-draw.
In a notable moment, the three leaders engaged in a private meeting for around 50 minutes following the draw, without any aides present.
Friday marked the first direct interaction between Trump and Sheinbaum, and the first private meeting with Carney since trade talks with Canada stalled in October.
