As the 2024 presidential election approaches, censorship at big tech companies is increasing, and Glenn Beck worries about what this means for independent content creators.
“We are witnessing a very worrying trend in social media. Lately, the giants of Silicon Valley have become increasingly aggressive in punishing people like me, or perhaps you, who think the wrong way. , trying to control the narrative and dictate the information people have access to,” he says.
Glenn believes this is a “blatant attack on free speech” and they are using him as an example.
Last week, Glenn’s team discovered that Apple had rated his entire Apple Podcasts library as explicit content, even though his radio show is regulated by the FCC.
However, after discussions with Apple, we plan to remove the explicit label within the next few business days.
“They’re going to take a few days to fix this,” Glenn explains, calling the tactic “soft censorship.”
Additionally, Facebook has now made shadowbanning an internal policy. For those unfamiliar with the term, shadowbanning refers to blocking a content creator from social media platforms and online forums while not notifying them that they have been blocked. This typically means that content such as posts and comments will no longer be visible to users.
“They’re just rounding up everyone who opposes the government and putting them into this little digital ghetto,” Glenn says. “There’s a wall around them. Well, they can talk all they want, but no one will hear it.”
Apparently, Facebook plans to shadowban all political content, but Glenn isn’t sure what constitutes political content for Meta.
“I want to know what Facebook considers political content.” Is promoting LGBTQ issues to children considered political? Probably not. What about content about the benefits of abortion? “Is it political?” he asks.
