Little Leaguers Wish for Major League Stars
A young Canadian leaguer gained attention on Sunday night after expressing who he’d like to see play in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. When asked by an ESPN broadcaster if he wanted to meet any MLB players, the Australian leaguer picked New York Mets’ star Juan Soto.
After that, Canada’s Mischalee was questioned if he was interested in finding Soto, to which he replied, “Yeah, he’s a bit overrated. He’s fine.” It’s interesting to see kids talk candidly about their idols, isn’t it? Mischalee also mentioned his desire to find Star Cal Laurie playing for the Seattle Mariners.
Both Laurie and Soto are standout players for their teams, and they faced each other during the annual Little League Classic, coinciding with the Little League World Series.
The Mets played against the Mariners, winning 7-3. In this game, Soto had a tough outing, going 0-for-3 with two walks, while Raleigh from the Mariners had a stellar performance, going 5-for-5 with home runs and RBIs.
This season showed a contrast between the two players; while Soto struggled as an outfielder, Raleigh excelled as a catcher, boasting impressive stats with a .249 batting average and leading the American League with 102 RBIs after a recent game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Soto, who signed a massive contract with the Mets worth 15 years and $765 million, ended up with a .251 average and 30 home runs this season. Interestingly, he’s also leading the majors with 96 walks.
