At LIV Golf, Joaquin Niemann scored his second win in the third race of the 2024 season.
Niemann shot a 4-under 66 in the final round and finished at 17 under, giving him a four-stroke lead over Louis Oosthuizen and a win over Liv Jeddah.
He also won the opening round at LIV Mayakoba.
This victory makes him one of the most-watched golfers in the world and he should be considered a player to watch at April’s Masters.
After his win, he was asked about his thoughts on being one of the favorites to win a major title in 2024. Neiman took the opportunity to respond: take another jab On the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).
“How is that possible if I’m about 100 years old in the world,” Neiman said with a laugh. “I’m very happy with my play…”
Strictly speaking, Neiman is not ranked 100th in OWGR. He finished third in the Asian Tour’s International Series Oman, moving up nine places to now 72nd.
It was Niemann’s third win in recent months, having previously won the Australian Open in December. The 25-year-old Chilean also finished fourth at the Dubai Desert Classic in January.
He and many other members of the LIV Golf League have expressed frustration with the lack of points earned at LIV events. As a result, many of them have fallen sharply in the rankings and are no longer in contention for the majors, with the exception of exemptions.
Niemann previously blew up OWGR in February when he received an invitation to the Masters.
If given the chance, Niemann would complain about LIV golfers not receiving OWGR points.
However, OWGR explained its reasons for rejecting LIV Golf members. It’s a known fact. The format is a 48-man field, shotgun start, no cut, 54-hole event.
