This week in Malaysia, Asian Tour players competed in the IRS Prima Malaysian Open, with a top three non-exempt finish qualifying them for the British Open Championship.
LIV Golf member David Puig took home the title over the weekend, earning him a coveted spot in the final major of the summer.
The Spaniard shot a 9-under 62 on Saturday and Sunday, winning by two strokes over South Korea’s Junhun Wang and Thailand’s Denwit Borivong.

It hasn’t been an easy road for Puig. After opening with a 5-under 66 and an even-par 71, Fireballs’ teammates improved on those numbers.
At the time, winning the tournament didn’t seem like a possibility.
The 22-year-old then won the tournament with 18 birdies and no bogeys in 36 holes. The former Arizona Sun Devil also made a big jump in the Official World Golf Rankings, breaking into the world’s top 150 for the first time.
“It feels great and it’s definitely a weird feeling,” Puig said. “I almost missed the cut… It was a crazy weekend. 18 birdies and no bogeys in 36 holes was unbelievable. And to earn a spot in the Open is pretty amazing. That’s what I came here for.”
Puig is the third LIV Golf member to earn a spot at Royal Troon. Joaquin Niemann won the Australian Open and Dean Burmester won the Joburg Open and earned a ticket as well.
There are currently 13 LIV golfers in The Open field.
