Is Joaquin Niemann’s dissatisfaction with the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) helping him reach a major tournament?
Probably so.
Last weekend, Niemann won his second LIV Golf Tournament of the season at LIV Jeddah. His first win came at his LIV Mayakoba, the first event of the 2024 campaign.
The 25-year-old Chilean also won the Australian Open last December and tied for fourth at the Dubai Desert Classic in January. It’s easy to argue that Niemann is one of the hottest players in the world right now.
But after picking up his second win of the LIV Golf season, Niemann took another shot at OWGR, where points are not awarded at LIV Golf events.
“It’s frustrating,” Neiman said.
“I was a little happy to get the invitation from the Masters, because one of my goals was to play in my first major. I can play in the U.S. Open, so I can qualify. It’s a terrible thing to do, but I have a chance to participate.”
Augusta National has already given Niemann a special invitation to the 2024 Masters Tournament.
But now he will solve it According to GolfWRX’s Matt Vincenzi, the event will also be held in Kentucky in May.
“Oh, I also got an invitation to the PGA Championship,” Niemann told Vincenzi.
“So I’m in it too.”
The LIV Golf captain will play in three of the four majors this season, as he qualified for the British Open with his victory in Sydney.
Niemann also told Vincenzi that he plans to try to qualify for the U.S. Open. However, if he performs well enough at Augusta, he may not need to qualify for the U.S. Open.
Niemann is currently tied for 72nd place in the OWGR with Nick Dunalp. If he finishes in the top 60 by May 22nd, he will receive an invitation to the 2024 U.S. Open to finish second at Pinehurst.
He’s very close, and if he does well at Augusta National, he could qualify for all four major tournaments.
