Concerns Raised Over Abortion Clinics and Minor Hormone Treatments
A report from a pro-life activist group claims that abortion clinics are administering hormone treatments to 16-year-old minors with minimal parental consent and oversight from medical professionals.
An undercover investigation involved women posing as 16-year-olds reaching out to various clinics in multiple states to inquire about “gender-affirming care.” Surprisingly, up to seven clinics agreed to prescribe hormones at the initial appointment. In some cases, Planned Parenthood informed the callers, despite their pretense as minors, that they could effectively choose their provider and access cross-sex hormones immediately. Facilities in Minnesota and Oregon indicated they could schedule appointments for minors either same-day or within a few days.
Five clinics noted that no prior medical treatment, mental health evaluations, or documentation was required for minors to receive these hormones. Beyond being the largest abortion provider in the country, Planned Parenthood also stands out as a significant distributor of transgender medication.
Lila Rose, representing the group behind the investigation, described what they uncovered as a “terrifying reality” in these clinics, accusing them of rushing vulnerable children into undergoing irreversible hormone treatments with little medical supervision. “These drugs can sterilize, stunt growth, and leave lasting scars. This isn’t medical care; it’s child abuse and it has to stop,” she remarked.
Last month, a whistleblower from Texas Children’s Hospital, Dr. Eithan Haim, testified before Congress about the detrimental impacts of transgender treatments on children. He expressed concern that these practices might lead to children becoming “chronic medical patients.” During a hearing, he explained that he took a stand against “gender transition practices” at the hospital, risking his career because he felt these methods were harming children.
Live Action and Lila Rose urged Congress to reconsider the funding relationship with Planned Parenthood. Rose highlighted that the organization receives over $700 million annually from taxpayers and called for an end to this financial support. “It’s time to act and defund this abusive organization,” she asserted.
Recently, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson remarked on his desire for lawmakers to align with President Trump’s agenda, aiming to challenge the funding for Planned Parenthood. Johnson stated that the House would soon work on significant legislation to redirect funds away from major abortion providers to federally qualified health centers.
He also pointed out that there are more than 2,700 pregnancy resource centers actively helping women with alternatives to abortion. “These centers outnumber the large abortion providers by a ratio of 15 to 1, which is definitely worth celebrating,” he added.
