Live updates: Congress seeks drone answers, funding deal; Trump set to speak at Mar-a-Lago

Congress faces a Friday deadline to avert a government shutdown, and lawmakers are racing to reach a deal to keep the government funded.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) was expected to release a stopgap document on Sunday, but negotiations continue. Financing for farmers appears to be a key issue.

Meanwhile, calls for information on drone sightings are growing louder in Congress. On Sunday, Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York called on the Department of Homeland Security to deploy technology to detect drones.

President-elect Trump is scheduled to hold a press conference at Mar-a-Lago around 11 a.m. this morning.

Also this week, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is scheduled to travel to the U.S. Capitol to meet with Senate Republicans in hopes of gaining support for his nomination to head the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Lawmakers on the Senate floor will consider the annual defense bill, known as the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), after the House passed a major bill last week.

That's when Monday started. Follow us throughout the day for updates.
