Live updates: Senate faces vote to prevent government shutdown

The Senate opposes the government's funding deadline on Friday, and requires 60 votes to prevent the closure from midnight on Saturday.

Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.) supported the ongoing resolution late Thursday, sparking the rage of many in his party and yelling the defeat of the bill.

But his announcement provides important political coverage for Senate Democrats who are thinking of voting for a bill that leads to the House to ensure the government is not shut down, despite serious concerns about it.

The first vote will be set in the early afternoon.

At the White House, President Trump will meet with New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, D., to discuss crowd pricing in New York City and the energy pipeline that needs to pass through her state.

According to the White House, the president will later speak out at the Justice Department about “law and order.”
