Live updates: Stefanik faces Senate questions as Trump administration takes shape

The second day of the second Trump administration is less glamorous, but the situation continues, and executive and congressional action is expected.

President Trump and Vice President Vance attended a morning service at the Washington National Cathedral. Trump is scheduled to meet with Republican leaders later in the day.

Many of the Trump administration's cabinet nominees will face Senate challenges for confirmation. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was sworn in early Tuesday morning, becoming the first nominee of President Trump to take the oath.

The Senate Finance Committee advanced the nomination of Scott Bessent to be Secretary of the Treasury.

Representative Elise Stefanik (RN.Y.) appeared before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee seeking confirmation from President Trump as ambassador to the United Nations. Members of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee are scheduled to question Doug Collins, President Trump's nominee for veterans affairs.

A busy day in Congress will likely reflect developments throughout the Trump administration. It has been reported that there may be an immigration sweep in Chicago as the 47th president steps up crackdowns on illegal immigrants. This comes in the wake of a series of executive orders cracking down on borders.
