A young Texas Highway Patrol officer died over the weekend after being injured while investigating a car crash.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) announced the death of Officer Kevin Alexis Ramirez Vazquez, 25, in a press release Sunday.
Ramirez Vazquez was responding to an accident Tuesday morning when he was “hit by a car.”
“Officer Ramirez Vasquez suffered serious injuries and was transported to Odessa Medical Center Hospital,” the department said in a statement.
“He was then airlifted to a Lubbock area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on September 28th.”
The service member, who is survived by his parents and three siblings, joined the TXDPS in 2023 and was stationed in Odessa.
He also served in the U.S. Army both before and during his service as a soldier.
“Prior to his enlistment, Officer Ramirez Vazquez served in the U.S. Army and currently serves in the National Guard, having lived a military career,” the press release states.
“He is the 241st DPS officer to die in the line of duty since 1823.”
“There are no words to ease the loss of one of our brothers in uniform,” TXDPS Chief Stephen McCraw said in a statement.
“Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Alexis Ramirez Vasquez served this state honorably until his last breath,” McGraw said.
“His dedication to keeping our roads safe and protecting the people of Texas and the sacrifices he made will never be forgotten.”
“Today, we ask that you continue to pray for his family, friends, and colleagues during these difficult days ahead.”
