Logan Paul Sets Record with $16.49 Million Pokémon Card Sale

Logan Paul made headlines on Monday by selling a rare Pokémon trading card for an incredible $16.49 million, breaking the Guinness World Record for the most expensive trading card sold at auction.

After an intense auction lasting 42 days, Paul ceremoniously placed a multi-million dollar Pikachu Illustrator card around the neck of the winning bidder, AJ Scaramucci, who is the son of venture capitalist and former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci.

“Oh my god, this is crazy,” Paul exclaimed when the deal was finalized.

In addition to the card itself, Paul introduced a diamond necklace and a custom case that he previously showcased at WrestleMania 38 in 2022.

Interestingly, Paul had sold another rare trading card from the late 1990s about five years ago for roughly $5.275 million, making him around $8 million in profit from that deal.

His first purchase had also set a record for the highest price ever paid for a Pokémon card in a private sale, according to Guinness World Records.

Sarah Casson, an adjudicator from Guinness World Records, attended the YouTube livestream auction and verified that the amount paid was the highest ever recorded for a trading card auction.

This collector’s grail card, designed by Atsuko Nishida for a 1998 contest, is one of only a few dozen believed to be in existence. Paul’s card is in mint condition and might be the only one with a perfect quality rating of 10.

Before the final sale to Scaramucci, Paul took to Instagram for an emotional farewell to the Rare Card. “Goodbye, friends. What an honor to be the owner of the greatest collectible in the world,” he shared with his 26.8 million followers.

Paul reflected on the card’s journey, stating, “From Guinness World Records to WWE debuts to Netflix to national news, this card and I have been through generations.”

He also likened the moment to achieving a major milestone in a game, saying, “This feels like the moment when you defeat the Elite Four, enter the Hall of Fame, and the game begins again. This Holy Grail will change hands, and I’m looking forward to the next Pokémon journey.”
