Logan Sargeant ‘happy’ with qualifying effort at F1 Miami Grand Prix

MIAMI – When the dust settled after the first part of qualifying at Hard Rock Stadium for the Miami Grand Prix, Williams driver Logan Sargent was just 0.034 behind Fernando Alonso, who qualified for Q2 in 15th place. I realized that I had been defeated.

As frustrating as it may be for some, Sargent was pleased with his effort and believed he could deliver even more in Sunday’s main event.

“We could have put a little more effort into the second quarter,” Sargent told the media. SB Nation, following the preliminaries. “But most importantly, we feel that the changes we made during the sprint race and qualifying are going in the right direction and that will ultimately translate into tomorrow.”

“But I’m happy with what I did today.”

The young driver also revealed that starting from Friday’s solo practice session, he feels now the most comfortable he has been all year.

“And, I mean, jumping into FP1 this weekend is the most comfortable I’ve felt all year and I feel like I just got into it,” Sargent said. And if you look at Australia and beyond, it feels like we’ve gotten almost everything from Japan and are doing relatively well.

“Of course China was disappointing. But coming here today, I feel like I’ve done a good job. I’m just looking for the other tenth, but still, just having fun and going home. We will continue to provide the best that we can.”

As you probably know, the big question facing Sargent isn’t how comfortable he is with his FW46 at the moment, but how long he’ll keep driving it. Rumors about Andrea Kimi Antonelli continue to swirl in the paddock, with multiple reports emerging that a team purported to be Williams has applied for a sanction to allow Antonelli, who is not yet 18, to obtain a superlicence. .

Speaking at an FIA press conference on Friday, Williams team boss James Vowles played down the rumors, but said Sargent had some “difficult goals” to achieve and ultimately needed to earn the position. Ta.

When asked about those rumors and whether he had received any “assurances” from Bolles about his position, the sergeant brushed the question aside. He said: “I’ve talked to James internally, I’ve talked to my manager, but it’s all internal so I have nothing to say.”

After all, the sergeant is in Miami for work. And the driver believes that if he can iron out a few things on Sunday, he will threaten the cars in front of him.

“I’m confident that the changes we’ve made are in the right direction. Still, we’ll have to wait and see,” said Sgt.

“I was really happy with the straight-line speed advantage we had. If we can solve some exits, we’ll be able to threaten a lot of guys.”
