Not all animals were so obedient.
Crispin, an endangered Sumatran tiger cub, was counted out with three others as he handled the chalk board like a cat, playfully nibbling with his powerful jaws.

As a requirement for the zoo's license, it will house about 14,000 animals over the two days, ranging from alpacas to zebras. Information from the count is shared with zoos around the world to help manage endangered species breeding programs.

The Earl will be highlighting some of the new additions to the zoo over the past year. A small three-toed sloth and 17 chicks hatched in a nest box, including six Sokoro Pigeons, which are extinct in the wild.
“Keepers are doing a lot of different things to help us count these animals,” said zoo operations manager Dan Simmons.

Kim Carter had no trouble registering her Galapagos giant tortoises, Priscilla, Polly, and Dolly. Becca Keefe added zebras Kabibi, Kianga and Spot to her list. Sam Aberdeen showed off a giant Seychelles millipede wrapped around his hand. I was lucky that it didn't have many legs and I was only counting this animal.
