Long Island authorities remind people to follow drone rules

Officials in Suffolk County, New York, held a press conference to remind people to follow rules when flying drones and avoid restricted airspace.

Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon Jr. noted that many people may have gotten drones as gifts over the holidays, and that unmanned aircraft of a certain size must be registered. , reminded residents that drone operators need to be familiar with the regulations governing drones.

Toulon highlighted the issue of drones approaching restricted airspace near airports, posing a risk to air traffic and public safety. Officials also noted that drones are being used to drop contraband into prisons, raising further concerns.
