Nassau County launched a drone in an aerial exploration of the missing Long Island Democratic candidate whose car and clothing were found near a local beach, officials said Thursday.
Petros Clomidas, who is running for a seat on the Nassau MP's committee, disappeared on April 23 when he was trained in Long Beach, officers said.
Police later found the 29-year-old locked car at the Alegria Hotel, just near the beach, where he regularly visited to train for a triathlon, his family said. He seemed to have a towel with him.
County executive Bruce Blakeman said Thursday that he ordered the mobilization of Nassau's community emergency response team and drone teams to conduct an air search that began in Atlantic Beach.
While searching for drones “along the coast and nearby areas,” Blakeman added, command posts have been installed at the Catalina Beach Club.
“The safety and happiness of our community members is our number one priority and we do everything we can to find Peter and take him home safely,” Blakeman said.
