Long Island senior skip day devolves into chaos when gunfire erupts at massive teen party

At least one person was shot Thursday evening as more than 2,000 teenagers gathered in Long Beach, Long Island, New York, for an event police called “Senior Sup Day.”

“The next thing I heard was one gunshot, then several more,” the witness said. Fox 5“All we saw was a flash and then we saw a group of girls take off running. All we saw was a couple of people stumbling.”

The witness said he and another man ran to a nearby laundromat and stayed there.

Long Beach police were overwhelmed by the number of young people and called in Nassau County police to help control the large party.

“My son asked me to come and pick him up,” his mother told FOX 5 from her car. “There had been a shooting and he couldn’t catch the train. When I got there I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ I was just happy he was safe.”

Police said they have taken two people into custody, according to FOX5.

A Long Beach Police officer told FOX 5, “Earlier today there was a large group of over 2,000 young people on our beach. The group was dispersed with the assistance of Long Beach Police and Nassau County Police. Parts of the group went into the area of ​​Edwards Boulevard and Park Avenue where one person was shot. The individual was transported to the hospital where he is receiving treatment.”

Police said the person who was shot was male but did not disclose his age or status, describing him as a “young adult.”

He added: “It looks like social media. It could be a cut of high school students today. There were multiple schools on the beach.”
