Long Island softball team experiencing a memorable season as playoffs approach

Sachem North Softball Achieves Remarkable Season

The Sachem North Softball team is celebrating a significant achievement, finishing their season with an impressive 15-4 record, which is their best in the league.

Manager Ken Sasso remarked, “You don’t really grasp what you’ve accomplished until it’s all over. But when we clinched that 15th win and looked back, I thought, ‘Wow, we’ve never done this before in the league.’

Sophomore catcher Delaney Mathes is showing remarkable performance, hitting an impressive .685 as they prepare for a playoff game against Half Hollow Hills. Yet, she doesn’t dwell on personal accolades, especially after the disappointment of last season’s early exit against Sachem East.

“I definitely want to win the county…it would be amazing to go further than we did last year,” she expressed.

The team is eager to carry their signature high energy into the playoffs.

Third baseman Brook Giordano noted, “There’s never a dull moment.” Junior pitcher Dani Brennan chimed in, mentioning that everything intensifies when the batting heats up.

“We’re always supportive of each other, and that’s what sets us apart from other teams,” she added. “They don’t have the same kind of support we do.”

The coaching staff is focusing on mental readiness rather than just mechanics, aiming to keep the players in a positive mindset.

As the playoffs approach, the excitement is palpable, with the Class B Softball title series kicking off at top-seeded Carl Place (16-5) on Saturday at Farmingdale State University, scheduled for 10:30 AM.

In the baseball bracket, the top seed with a 19-3 record is set to face the second seed, Wheatley (18-3-1), in Game 2 of the semi-finals on Friday at 4:30 PM.
