Longtime TV News Anchor Retires After 35 Years

A well-known television anchor is bidding farewell after over three decades in the industry, though this isn’t the end of her professional journey.

Michelle Bandeur, a cherished presenter at KCRA in Sacramento, shared her retirement news on Monday, marking the conclusion of her 35-year career in television news.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, she reflected on her experiences, stating, “Working as a TV news journalist since the late 1980s has been an incredible experience.” She also revealed her final day with the station.

“I’ve truly enjoyed and learned from being part of the transformations in television news over the years, from changes in hairstyles to advancements in technology, social media, and now the direct engagement with viewers,” she wrote.

Bandeur, originally from Iowa, is a two-time Emmy Award-winning journalist who has had stints in both Los Angeles and Sacramento.

“One thing has never changed: telling stories, seeking truth, and searching for answers,” she continued. “Journalism is more important than ever.”

Looking ahead, she hinted at exciting new opportunities. “I’m staying in Sacramento because I have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with a unique company,” she mentioned. “More will come!” This playful tease left some wondering what her next chapter might entail.

Throughout her career, Bandeur has made significant contributions, including advocacy for foster children, which later influenced a California bill aimed at improving their living conditions.

In her farewell message, she expressed gratitude: “NorCal, thank you for helping me share your story, even on your darkest days.”
