Louise Hague admits telephone crime and resigns as UK transport secretary
The Secretary of Transportation is Louise Hayresigned after it was revealed that he had pleaded guilty in 2013 to falsely telling police that his work phone had been stolen.
In a letter to Sir Keir Starmer, she said:
Whatever the facts, I understand that this issue will inevitably hinder the government's efforts and the implementation of the policies that our two countries are working on.
I am forever grateful for the support you have shown me and am extremely proud of what we have achieved since the election.
She added:
I will continue to be fully committed to our political project, but I now believe that supporting you from outside the government is most effective.
I'm sad to leave under these circumstances, but I'm proud of what we've accomplished so far. I will continue to fight every day, first and foremost for the people of Sheffield Healey, whom I was elected to represent, and to ensure that the rest of our program is fully delivered.
