A Louisiana boy who was reported missing last week has been found safe and sound with “filthy items” inside his backpack.
“Story time!” the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office wrote Friday. Posted on Facebook page on May 31st.
“Everyone, come join us for a little Friday morning fun story,” the sheriff’s office said in the post.
That morning, “the young man decided to leave his home and embark on an adventure in search of a new life,” the agency said.
“Let’s be honest, we’ve all been through that at one point when we were younger.”
A sheriff’s deputy quickly found the child, according to the post, but the child’s name, age or location were not identified by the sheriff’s office.
“However, there was an unexpected turn of events.”
“The thing that was in the kid’s backpack was none other than a rooster!”
“Yes, that is correct. Ole Foghorn was slightly shaken up but unharmed,” the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
The name comes from the Looney Tunes character Foghorn Leghorn.

The Facebook post included a photo of a large chicken stuffed into a Pokémon-themed backpack.
While the story may have seemed funny to some online, the post said there was more to it than that.
“Now, here’s the thing: the rooster didn’t belong to the boy and we’re still puzzled as to how he got his hands on it,” the agency said.
“So we have a bit of a mystery, and, well, “Rooster” The post read, accompanied by an emoji of a man shrugging and a rooster.
Police have appealed for anyone with information about the rooster to contact them.
The rooster, on the other hand, seems to be doing well.
“Ole Foghorn is currently confined in Paterson Animal Control’s Witness Protection Program, but we believe he would like to return home where he belongs,” the sheriff’s office said.
The post ends with the hashtags “#LostAndFound,” “#RoosterMystery,” “#CommunityHelp,” “#AnyoneMissingARooster” and “#WhatAFridayThisHasBeenAlready.”
The post has been shared more than 250 times, with many people poking fun at the absurdity of the situation and pointing out important details the sheriff’s office missed.
“The problem is it’s a hen, not a rooster,” commented one Facebook user, with others agreeing.
“Someone call CPS (Chicken Protection Services),” said another.
“How do we know the rooster and the baby goat didn’t conspire to leave for a better life?” joked another Facebook user.
St. Mary Parish is located in southern Louisiana.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office told Fox News Digital in an email that it was unclear if any chickens were recovered over the weekend.
