Charges Filed in Louisiana Deputy’s Death

A man from Louisiana is facing murder charges for allegedly killing a U.S. marshal deputy during an attempt to execute an arrest warrant, as announced by federal authorities on Tuesday.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana reported that a group of law enforcement officers was serving an arrest warrant connected to previous sexual assault allegations when 48-year-old Clarence A. Frazier Jr. from Alexandria reportedly barricaded himself inside his home and opened fire.

Frazier has been charged with the murder of a federal officer. If found guilty, he could be sentenced to life in prison or face the death penalty.

The deputy who lost his life has been identified as Drew Hanson, described by officials as a caring husband, father, and son.

Acting U.S. Attorney Todd Blanche stated, “Tragically, the defendant’s alleged actions claimed the life of a dedicated law enforcement officer who was simply doing his job. The alleged perpetrator is currently in custody and will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

The incident took place on July 13, when agents from the U.S. Marshals Service and the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office located Frazier’s home and acquired a search warrant.

According to federal court documents, Frazier did not show up for his state court trial regarding charges of sexual assault against a person with a disability.

After announcing their presence, law enforcement officers forced their way into the home. Frazier reportedly barricaded himself in a bedroom, where he fired shots at the officers and engaged in a violent confrontation with Hanson.

Frazier was eventually taken into custody following a standoff in the bedroom. Sadly, Hanson succumbed to the gunshot wounds he sustained during the altercation.
