A Louisiana teenager charged with attempted murder was turned over to authorities by his parents after a short run, authorities announced Sunday.
Kimmy Dantain Jr., 17, escaped from Juvenile Justice custody Friday afternoon while on her way to a funeral, according to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The boy was being held on multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, accessory after the fact, simple assault and unlawful possession of a handgun by a juvenile, Fox 8 reported.
News of the escape comes as other prison inmates have enjoyed a brief taste of freedom while on the run from custody in recent weeks.

Two Arkansas inmates escaped from custody last month. Noah Rausch, 22, and Jatonia Bryant, 23, were found missing at the Dove Brussell Adult Detention Center in Pine Bluff.
“They were able to get out of the shower area by cutting a hole in the ceiling, and through that hole they cut a hole in the roof of the facility and exited from there,” Maj. John Bean previously said. he told FOX News Digital.
Police said Rausch was being held on “suspects of burglary and theft of property.” The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that the suspect is “also a suspect in a murder case.”
Bryant was taken into custody “on probable cause for capital murder,” according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. He was captured a few days after his escape.

In Philadelphia, murder suspect Shane Pryor, 17, was arrested by federal marshals in late January after a five-day manhunt.
Around noon on January 24, Pryor managed to get out of his car in the parking lot of the emergency room at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was free from handcuffs and with two prison staff when he fled.
