Scottie Scheffler is a free man.
In the early morning hours of Friday, May 17, the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department (LMPD) arrested Scheffler and charged him with four counts, including assault on a police officer (a felony).
However, according to a report by radio personality Terry Miners of Louisville, Kentucky: The police will drop these charges..
The announcement came six days after Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg and Louisville Police Chief Jacqueline Gwynn Villarroel released two videos to the media detailing the incident.
Another news conference by Jefferson County Prosecutor Mike O’Connell and Scheffler’s attorney, Steve Romines, is scheduled for Wednesday, five days before Scheffler’s arraignment, when early indications suggested prosecutors would drop the case altogether.
It makes sense that they would, given that Scheffler did not appear to be doing anything wrong in the video released.

Scheffler had attempted to get through traffic to enter the main gates of Valhalla before his tee time for the second round that morning, just before a tragic fatal accident occurred, causing heavy traffic and increased police presence.
But the two-time Masters champion was unaware that someone had lost his life — he just wanted to get on the course to warm up.
Other PGA Tour players acknowledged engaging in similar behavior, but Scheffler said there was a “major miscommunication” with police.
Given the time of day and the rainy weather conditions, witnesses at the scene, especially ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, Reported the newsAnother video released early Wednesday morning also showed Schaeffler’s point of view, in which he initially did not realize the traffic officer was a police officer.
Still, it seems likely that everyone involved in this incident will be able to recover from this.
