Charlie Kirk Memorial Service in Glendale, Arizona

Thousands gathered in Glendale, Arizona, to remember Charlie Kirk at a service that featured numerous speakers reflecting on the impact of murdered activists. While many shared well-known sentiments about Kirk’s role in conservative movements, others spoke more personally about their experiences with him.

The service highlighted Kirk’s brief 31 years of life, with friends, family, and colleagues reminiscing about fond memories.

Personal Memories

Erica Kirk, Charlie’s widow, shared intimate stories from their marriage, highlighting a ritual they maintained despite his travels. “Someone asked us if our marriage was strong during his busy schedule,” she recounted. “Here’s our little secret: Every Saturday, Charlie would write me a love note without fail.” She recalled him expressing gratitude and ending each note by asking, “How can I serve you better as a husband?”

Erica also touched on Kirk’s passion for journaling and his commitment to strengthening the conservative student movement. “It was never painful or uncomfortable,” she reflected. “Charlie’s passing feels like an incomplete chapter, but not unfinished business. I miss him deeply; our family life was beautiful.”

Faith and Friendship

Sergio Gaul, a director from the White House, reflected on how Kirk influenced him through his Christian faith. He mentioned how Charlie’s daily Bible verses would often set the tone for his day. Gaul, who had been friends with Kirk for over a decade, recalled their adventures around the world, sharing amusing stories, including one about falling in the snow upon arriving in Greenland.

A Hidden Kindness

Stacey Sheridan, a senior director at Turning Point, recounted how Kirk helped her husband during his battle with cancer. “Charlie would call regularly, offering help in any way he could,” Sheridan said. She noted that, at one point, he arranged for necessary medical supplies to be delivered to her home without her knowledge. “That was Charlie—he just did the right thing.” She also mentioned how he supported her after losing her home in a wildfire earlier that year.

The Podcasting Passion

Andrew Kolvet, Turning Point’s spokesman, described Kirk’s love for podcasting, emphasizing how he stayed connected with his audience, even on tight schedules. Kolvet noted that Kirk would read emails from followers, often encouraging them to reach out with their thoughts.

Inspiring Future Leaders

Representative Anna Paulina Luna spoke about her journey, crediting Kirk with guiding her towards a leadership role. “There wouldn’t be a Rep. Luna without Charlie Kirk,” she stated, recalling pivotal conversations that changed her career path.

Final Moments

Frank Turek, a Christian apologet who spent Kirk’s last day with him, provided an emotional account of their experience. As Turek rushed him to the hospital, he struggled to save Kirk’s life. “He wasn’t looking at me, almost as if he was transcending,” he reflected sorrowfully.

“We did everything we could, but Charlie was already gone,” Turek said, emphasizing the profound loss felt by all who knew him.
