New Platform Announced for Women’s Team Golf
The LPGA and TMRW Sports have unveiled plans for WTGL, an innovative team golf platform showcasing top female golfers. Set to launch in the winter of 2026-27, WTGL will feature teams of LPGA Tour stars engaging in high-energy match play from a specially constructed venue called the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
LPGA Commissioner Craig Kessler expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that it signifies their commitment to bringing fresh ideas to attract new fans and elevate the visibility of LPGA athletes. “New formats can captivate audiences while highlighting the personality and skills of the players,” he commented. “WTGL embodies this approach, offering a global platform for these athletes and fostering deeper connections with fans, ultimately boosting the profile of women’s golf.”
Mike McCurley, founder and CEO of TMRW Sports, mentioned that collaborating with the LPGA represents a move towards a contemporary, media-centric interpretation of golf aimed at today’s sports enthusiasts. He noted their intention to also develop a league for high school female players and is eager to partner with the LPGA to create a stage for its stars. McCurley believes that the team’s shorter format will draw in new viewers and further enhance the global appeal of the LPGA Tour.
WTGL aims to highlight the talents, character, and camaraderie of LPGA players. It builds on the successful elements of TGL, previously described as a “high-energy arena spectacle” by Vanity Fair, and received accolades from GQ and Fast Company for its pioneering vision in golf. The WTGL will continue to incorporate technology, featuring mic’d-up moments, strategic risk-reward scenarios, and performance analytics to enrich the viewing experience. Further details about WTGL will be shared in the coming months. For continuous updates, you can check WTGLGolf.com.
