LPGA: Hannah Green downs Celine Boutier after fiery finish, 27-foot birdie

Hannah Green thrilled fans in Singapore on Sunday when she made a 27-foot birdie putt on the 18th to defeat Celine Boutier by one stroke and win the HSBC Women’s World Championship on the LPGA Tour.

Green closed with three straight birdies to cap her long putt It was his fourth win on the LPGA Tour.

Green was consistent on the front nine, turning in a clean scorecard at 2 under. She hit bogey on the par-4 10th, but she didn’t phase and got her stroke back on the 12th.

But in the end it came down to wire.

“I like to make things a little bit more interesting and I birdied the last three,” Green said after the win. “A few years ago, I almost won this trophy, but I hit two bogeys on the final stretch. Today, I was able to hole two putts on the last two holes, and it felt like today. It’s like it was fate for me. I’m very happy to have this. [trophy] in my hands. ”

Green was well aware that in order to win in Singapore, he would have to play well until the end.

“I made a really good birdie on the 16th and was able to two-putt there,” she said. “That was good. I saw the leaderboard on the 17th, so I made the putt there. I knew I had to at least get a birdie at the end to win by one. So that putt went in. At that moment, I thought, “Oh my god, I won.”

If that putt hadn’t fallen, the tournament would have advanced to the playoffs. Neither Boutier nor Green have ever lost in a playoff while on the LPGA Tour.

It’s Green’s Tour win earlier this year, and she wouldn’t change a thing.

“I don’t think playing this year will be much different. We have the Olympics and two trips to Europe, so I still think we’re going to continue with the schedule we set,” Green said. “Just having the flexibility is great.”

The LPGA will next head to China for the Blue Bay tournament, as the Asian Swing has a week left before the women head to the West Coast.
